چکیده

Extending WDM transmission distances between regenerators and increasing the channel bit-rates are required to achieve cost-effective terabit/s backbone networks. However, the achievable performance is limited the fibre nonlinearity, with high optical launch powers and short pulse widths leading to nonlinear distortion of the signals. In this paper, we report new results of splitstep Fourier simulations of WDM transmission, investigating the effects of both intraand inter-channel nonlinear distortion for 10and 40-Gbit/s channel rates.

Gbit-Class Transmission Using SOA Data Rewriter for WDM-PON

We describe the transmission characteristics of a wavelength independent wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) based on a wavelength channel data rewriter (WCDR). The WCDR is composed of a linear amplifier (LA) and a saturated semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), and by using the WCDR in optical network units (ONUs), we can erase the downstream signal and modulate...

Intra-Channel Nonlinear Effects in Dispersion Compensated High Speed Optical Communication Systems

Recent developments in dispersion compensation devices allow the upgrade of standard single mode fibers (G.652) based transmission systems to 40 Gbit/s or even higher bit rates per channel. Nevertheless, the nonlinear behavior of the fiber presents a serious limitation factor, in terms of the total achievable distance, even for single channel systems. Nonlinear intra-channel effects in high-spe...

Modulation formats for 100G and beyond

This paper reviews technological options for the modulation formats for serial optical transmission of 100 Gb/s and beyond. In the first part an overview on various modulation formats for 100 Gbit/s is presented, covering classical binary electronic time division multiplexed 100 Gbit/s NRZ systems, operating a highest speed, and mature product solutions of system vendors running at lower symbol...

Digital back-propagation for spectrally efficient WDM 112 Gbit/s PM m-ary QAM transmission.

We report the performance of coherently-detected nine-channel WDM transmission over high dispersion fibers, using polarization multiplexed m-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (m=4, 16, 64, 256) at 112 Gbit/s. Compensation of fiber nonlinearities via digital back-propagation enables up to 10 dB improvement in maximum transmittable power and ~8 dB Qeff improvement which translates to a nine-fol...

Parallel WDM Transmission for Ultra-high Bandwidth

Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) is a technology that multiplexes a number of optical signals in a single optical fiber achieving very high aggregate bandwidth. Each optical signal provides a bitrate well above 1 Gbit/s, and thus the aggregate information capacity per fiber exceeds Tbit/s. This technology is also formidable for inter-computer communication where ultra-high bandwidth needs...
